double-page spread analysis

  • This small heading is in the top left corner, staying within the main pallet of the page with black, blue and white. "Radar" insinuates new information found recently that any other magazine may not have. Its capital letters and the boldness of the lettering attracts the reader's eye to it, so that they will know what this page is about and then they can decide if they are interested.

  • This double page spread is a prime example of a typical magazine article. They usually are possibily about a new and upcoming band to present them into the world of music.

  • Focussing on the main photograph, it has been taken using the rule of thirds. The faces of the three members of the band have taken up a middle third each, the top three thirds are taken up by smaller photographs; this attracts the reader's eye because it creates a sense of wonder and mystery. The pose of the artist look very relaxed. The picture is large and takes up just over a size of A4 paper so therefore the eye can not help but be drawn to the image.

  • This small box at the bottom left hand corner stands out to the eye because it is formed with bright colours which makes the box seem more attractive to the human eyes. Due to this, it attracts the reader to the extra bit of information about the article so that they recieve it. The text is in bold black and white, a mixture of the black, white and blue pallet which is continued throughout these pages.

  • The title is in bold, black capitals, backed with a light blue. Not only does this create the pallet for the page but it also attracts the eye to the headline as it stands out from the rest of the page on the right side.

  • The column of the far end of the page on the right hand side is sometimes quite common in double page spreads, particually in music magazines; it can be cheaper for less well known bands to have a mention in a magazine. Sometimes these columns can include the latest music chart, or album review. They add extra appeal to the page; also sometimes it can be related to the main article. For example it could be reviews of the album or live performance of the band being covered.

  • The article itself is about a new band called "The Teenagers", by stating that "NME LOVES" this band, readers may read on to see if this new band is really all that NME claims them to be. The article includes, within itself, one small photograph of the band performing live, this is done most of the time in music magazines, a typical music magazine trait. The article is describing to its readers about the upcoming of the band, that they are the new "radar," with a quote, here and there, that one of the band members has said. One of these has been highlighted with the same blue as the title, this time in a white font so it will stand out to the reader's eyes.

Classic FM front cover

This magazine has a clear title that stands out and grabs the reader's attention. The cover is not over loaded with text and images.

It's main colour is red with the background colour of white which helps the text and images to stand out more. It also has a free gift which if the reader wants that CD then they will also get the magazine too. This magazine plays on the fact many members of the public want to look like these celebrities and would want to know everything that they can about these people's lifes so that they can be similar to them in how they live. The title colour are black-so it stands out on the white back ground- white-to stand out on the hair of the model, which is brown- and red to be the main part of the title, because it is a different colour and a different font from the rest of the title, and also red means passion, romance, a girl colour?

They use a beauitful woman on the front cover because they are playing on the need that some woman feel they have that wants them to look like the models used on front covers.

The small picture that is put on top of the CD looks as if perhaps it was added in last minuite to fill a gap.

more about CD
"FREE CD" to draw the reader's eye to the CD. On the front cover of the magazine there is a picture under the CD which shows where the CD goes on the cover. The colours the CD cover are red, orange and yellow, these colours are the colours of a flame bright with warmth. "The passion of life".

models
Apart from the pretty woman they use on the front cover main image, they also use a handsome man model as well who is marrying another artist in the music world which might make some of the readers think their dream may be reachable too, he reasures them that it is.

The fact that there is a wedding gives a romantic theme to the magazine and the fact that it is on the front cover suggests to the readers that it is big news and will attract more readers, more than likely women and young teenage girls because in society it is said that it is mostly women who dream of a happy ever after.

the LARGE image
The large image of the model is used in the background of the front cover. This allows a large image to be used on the front cover of a magazine without seeming to over power the text and other images on the page.

Maslow's Theory- Motivation Triangle

There are many different theories as to why human being make decisions and do the things we do. One of these theorys is Marlow's theory. This is in fact my favourite theory because it is simple, logical and easy to understand.

Marlow's theory says that all human beings are driven by a collection of needs and that these needs bulid on each other. People who don't have their basic needs met(like food, water and a place to sleep), are less concerned with their more complex needs(like having friends and feeling respected by other human beings).

Maslow came up with a clever way of grouping these needs into different layers, that make up a triangle. The bottom layer of the triangle contains the most basic human needs and each layer higher up in the triangle contains more and more complex needs.
